Corynn Kokolakis is a figurative oil painter whose practice merges the often-disparate roles of mother and artist. Influenced by motion and materiality, her work explores memory, childhood development, and caregiving. Her current research considers how people learn how to see and practice care and she approaches her emerging teaching practice with the same curiosity. She recently had the opportunity to work through these ideas (in paint) at a residency at Vermont Studio Center.
Corynn completed an MFA in Visual Arts from York University where she held a SSHRC, CGS Master’s Scholarship. She earned a BFA in Drawing and Painting from OCADU, where she was awarded the Akin and JumpStart Career Launchers. Recent exhibitions include Rails End Gallery (2024), ArtMur (2022), Cedar Ridge Creative Centre (2022) and Baycrest Health (2020). She has been featured on Global News, BT, CP24, CBC Radio, and She does the City. Her work can be found in the Ken and Marilyn Thomson Patient Care Centre at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto, and in private collections in the UK, the US, Australia, France, and Canada. Corynn lives and works from her home studio in Toronto/Tkaronto.
